Ruth is a Swedish British cellist and Music for Health practitioner living and working in Stockholm/Sörmlands. 

Education

Ruth studied the cello with Emma Ferrand at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK. She graduated (BMus 2:1) in 2008, and completed her Masters (MMus) one year later, in 2009.  During  her studies at the RNCM, Ruth received prizes and awards for chamber music with the Mather String Quartet including the RNCM Sir John Barbirolli/Lawrence Turner Prize for String Quartet in July 2007, as well as being highly commended in the Granada, Schubert and Terence Weil Prizes.  After gaining a place at the orchestral academy in Göteborg in 2011 (a collaboration between the University of Göteborg and the Göteborgs Symfoniker) she completed a Masters in Orchestral Studies in 2013.  During her studies in Göteborg she received awards from the KMA Stipendium, Göteborgs Frimurares musik och sång-stipendium as well as the Adlerbertska Stipendium.

Orchestra

As an orchestral musician Ruth has played with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra in London and is a regular substitute with several of the Swedish orchestras including Nordiska Kammarorkester, Norrköpings Symfoniorkester, Stockholm Concert Orchestra, Dala Sinfonietta, Gävle Symfoniorkester, and Västerås Sinfonietta. Ruth has also worked as a substitute for Folkoperan's productions of  Emmy Lindströms “Ålevangeliet”, Verdi's “Don Carlos”, "Salieri vs Mozart", " Don Quijote" by Massenet and “Skapelse” by Haydn, as well as for Opera på Skäret's production of Verdi's “Don Carlos”.  She has also played regularly with the Läckö Opera Orchestra. She is a founding member of the c/o chamber orchestra, who are a European chamber orchestra based in Berlin, that rehearse and perform without conductor.  Ruth has also worked for Scenkonst Sörmlands and Västmanlandsmusiken.

Music for Health

Throughout her career Ruth has trained and works with a specialised practice of music-making in health settings such as special schools, care homes and hospitals, in both Sweden and the UK.  You can find more detailed information about current projects under the tab “Music for Health”.

Educator

Ruth is passionate about education and has previously held a part-time position at Eskilstuna Kulturskolan (August 2020- June 2021) and Kungsholmen kulturskolan in Stockholm (August 2017 till June 2019) as well as positions with Värmdö kulturskolan and Upplands-Väsby kulturskolan. In the UK she was a teacher for Manchester, Cheshire and St Helens Music Services.  Ruth has also worked as a chamber music coach for Pro Corda, UK.

that other quartet- string quartet

that other quartet is a string quartet based in Stockholm, Sweden. The ensemble works with many different projects,  exploring the boundaries within the traditional string quartet genre.  Available for concerts, weddings, events, studio and tv recordings, and more. Their program Love Notesis currently a part of Region Stockholms 2019/2020 catalogue of cultural experiences/performances, available for booking for healthcare centres and wards in the region. Arranger

Ruth even works with making arrangements for strings, both independently and in collaboration with other artists. Here is an example of her work, an arrangement of Frida Hyvönen’s Oh Shanghai, for string quartet.
